The easiest and most efficient way to carry out a property relocation would be to meticulously plan the job from start to end. If you have never organized a move before, have no worries and keep reading because we will present to you a relocation schedule which you can use for your move.
6 weeks before your move:
Contact your utility providers and notify them that you will be relocating. This will allow you to either cancel your accounts or transfer them to their local branch. You should also get in touch with your personal doctor and your pet’s veterinarian and request all medical documents, and demand for referrals about doctors and vets in your new area that you can go to. Last but not least, you should your bank and also tell you them about your move, so that they can transfer your account info to their local branch.
4 weeks before your move:
Commence scouting moving companies by contacting them and requesting quotations. Also don’t be shy to ask all the questions that are on your mind. Please note that the low rates doesn’t necessary mean the best quality/price ratio, so sometimes it is for the best if you hire movers who charge a bit more but have a steady reputation of reliable contractors who will handle the job in a time and diligent manner. It is very important that you book a moving company at least a month prior of your relocation, as more movers have a busy schedule and hiring them on a short notice can be quite tricky.
2 weeks before your move:
Start packing your non-essential belongings. If you don’t have adequate shielding products, you can purchase such materials from the movers which you have hired to carry out your relocation. Under non-essential possessions you should understand:
- Off season clothes
- Books and magazines
- Decorative items
- Bed linens
- Small pieces of furniture
- Garden furnishings
- Objects which you keep in your garbage, basement and attic
Note: you can sort some of these items and donate all objects which are in good condition and you aren’t using.
You should also stop doing the groceries, so that you can eat all the good that you have before your moving date arrives.
1 week before your move:
Finish the packing stage of your relocation by preparing your essential items such as personal documents, living room furnishings, dishware, silverware, season clothing, shoes, dining room furniture, large kitchen appliances, bathroom amenities and products, and etc. Or said in other words pack everything except your beds and several sets clothes which you will use until the day of your move.
1 day before your move:
Pack all remaining items and dismantled your larger furnishings. Throw away or donate all the food that you haven’t managed to eat. Also free the parking lot, so that the movers can park as close as possible to your property. This will ease and accelerate the loading process.
Welcome the movers and watch them work their magic.
