Finding the Best Time for Your House Move

American House

Moving your house is hard regardless of what time of year you are moving. However, if you have flexible schedule, perhaps you should consider some of the factors mentioned bellow and make the entire moving process less stressful for you and your family.

Moving in spring or late autumn

If you can choose, it is recommended to move in spring or autumn. This is the best time to move and hire moving companies that offer affordable rates. During this time, they do not have much work and they are not too busy. This also means that you will get their full attention during this period and they will completely focus on your satisfaction. However, people who cannot choose their moving date for several reasons, including jobs, kids, school and other, should at least try to avoid booking last minute and plan ahead their move, as well as hire the right moving company on time.

Do you have children?

If you have kids who go to school, summer is an ideal time for moving. Moreover, moving right after the end of the school year is perfect. First, your kids will have enough time to adjust to new surroundings, meet their new friends and get to know the new neighborhood. Second, they will be better prepared for a new school year if they have time to get to know their new home and be emotionally prepared for these huge changes. After you settle in, they can check out the new school, new teachers, and get to know their route to new school. A relocation can have a negative influence on children, especially if they do not have enough time to mentally prepare for it. If necessary, you can talk to the school counselor if you notice that your child has difficulties to adjust to these changes. The bottom line is that, if you can choose your moving date, pick the end of the school year. It is the best time for your children to move.

Avoid moving during holidays

Why is it recommended to avoid moving during holidays and special events? Perhaps it is because holidays are meant to be spent with your family and loved ones, not for packing and saying goodbye. Well, at least not yet. If you can postpone your house move, do it. Schedule the relocation after Thanksgiving or Christmas. These occasions can be your opportunity to say goodbye and spend some quality time with people you love.

Additionally, moving during holidays will probably cost you more. First, booking can be challenging and second, most moving companies charge more for moving during holidays. What you can do it just get some packing supplies and start preparing and do the actual move at a later point.

Whether it is done during summer, autumn, spring or winter, moving house is never easy and simple. There are still tons of things to do but, if you can choose and you have flexible schedule, you should move in the spring, after the end of your kids’ school year. And, avoid moving during weekends and holidays.
